Escapetruck of the Reshape Foundation in Wrocław
The door slams shut. Inside, it’s tight, the light dim, the smell musty. A story is spun from the speaker. The man narrates: his sick son, going away to work, the Netherlands… And then: slave labour in inhuman conditions, alcohol, drugs… You have to pick 8 numbers from his story to open the digital lock, get out and move on to the next room.
The container, prepared in the form of an escape room, offered an opportunity to confront the shocking experiences and experiences of victims of human trafficking.
Escapetruck is an initiative of the Dutch Reshape Foundation. It was created with the support of the Dutch Police and the Dutch Embassy in Poland. The project was initiated in our country in close cooperation with the Centre for Research on Human Trafficking at the University of Wrocław and the Polish Police and Border Guard.
The project is intended to draw attention to issues related to human trafficking, forced labour and sexual exploitation. The scenario is usually similar. An intermediary agency, travel abroad, hard work, no means of subsistence. Slavery.
– The numbers are striking. Our initiative is primarily aimed at raising awareness. We believe that education plays a key role in solving this problem – said Taco Stoppels, Deputy Head of Mission at the Dutch Embassy during the opening of the project in Wrocław.
Bertus Kleijer, Liaison Officer of the Police of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, representatives of the University of Wrocław – Prof. Jacek Przygodzki, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics and Prof. Bartłomiej Krzan representing the Research Centre on Human Trafficking at the University of Wrocław, Assistant Superintendent Paweł Adamczak, Head of the Prevention Department of the National Police Headquarters in Wrocław, Dr Andrzej Jerie, Director of the Centre “Remembrance and Future” – all drew attention to the essence of the problem of human trafficking and the need for education in this area.
– Forced labour or sexual exploitation can affect any one of us or our loved ones, they alarmed.
The Escapetruck educational project was available in front of the Zajezdnia History Centre at the end of October 2023.
If someone got out of the first room they ended up in the next, equally shocking and unpleasant. Then to the next one. We could not get out of the last one without outside help…
