Escaping the horrors of human trafficking. An educational project
On 17 May 2024, the educational project ESCAPETRUCK was launched in Wrocław and is visiting Poland for the second time.
ESCAPETRUCK could be visited on the premises of the ‘Remembrance and Future’ Centre, Zajezdnia History Centre at ul. Grabiszyńska in Wrocław. This time, Wrocław was the first city on its route. The project draws attention to the issue of human trafficking, particularly forced labour and sexual exploitation, in an innovative way. ESCAPETRUCK is an initiative of the Dutch Reshape Foundation and was created with the financial support of the Dutch Police and the Dutch Embassy.
The issue of human trafficking was presented to visitors in the form of an escape room. Participants will learn real stories of women who have fallen victim to human trafficking in Poland and who managed to escape thanks to the help of the authorities. The rooms in the escape room have been prepared to reflect the living conditions of victims of human trafficking, hence the unpleasant sounds, smells and atmosphere of confinement.
The project was initiated in Poland in close cooperation with the Centre for Research on Human Trafficking at the University of Wrocław and the Polish Police and Border Guard. – Our aim is to raise public awareness and make victims and their traumas visible – stressed prof. Bartłomiej Krzan, deputy dean of the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University of Wrocław, during the opening of the event in Wrocław.
The educational role of the project was also emphasised by Grzegorz Makuch, deputy director of the ‘Remembrance and Future’ Centre, Zajezdnia History Centre, as well as Andrzej Mankowski, director of MOPS in Wrocław, and Martin van Dijk, representative of the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
