European Congress on Molecular Spectroscopy

From 24 to 29 August 2025, the University of Wrocław hosted the European Congress on Molecular Spectroscopy (European Congress on Molecular Spectroscopy, EUCMOS 2025) was held at the University of Wrocław. It has been organised regularly since 1947 and has already been held twice in Poland: in 1977 in Wrocław and in 2004 in Krakow. The Congress on Molecular Spectroscopy is one of the most important international conferences on spectroscopy and its applications.

Spectroscopy is one of the basic research tools of modern chemistry. It allows us to observe matter not only in a narrow band of visible light, but across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, from ultraviolet to long radio waves. It is an extremely dynamic research discipline, with new techniques and methods emerging every year and ever-improving instrumentation. The opportunity for regular meetings between specialists involved in the creation and use of instruments plays a very important role in the development of research and the exchange of experiences. We are delighted that this year’s congress was attended by around 130 scientists from Europe and other parts of the world. We welcomed both experienced researchers and young scientists, doctoral students and undergraduates. There were 18 plenary lectures, 64 oral presentations and 63 posters.

This year’s Molecular Spectroscopy Congress was combined with the annual European Meeting on Physical Organic Chemistry (EMPOC) conference organised under the auspices of the Organic Physical Chemistry Section of the Polish Chemical Society. This conference is a continuation of the meetings initiated by Prof. Lucjan Sobczyk under the name of Organic Physical Chemistry Schools. The combination of the EUCMOS Congress and the EMPOC conference enriches the programme of both meetings and opens up new opportunities for participants.

Efforts were made to ensure that, in addition to the scientific programme, participants had the opportunity to establish personal contacts and scientific cooperation. This was made possible by integration meetings: a welcome meeting combined with a concert by the Continuo string quartet, a barbecue organised in the Botanical Garden, a concert performed by Dr Tomasz Marut (piano) and his wife (vocals) in the beautiful surroundings of the Oratorium Marianum, and a conference banquet prepared at the Plaza Hotel.

The Congress was organised by the University of Wrocław, co-organised by the Wrocław University of Technology and the Institute of Low Temperature and Structural Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Congress was held under the honorary patronage of the Rector of the University of Wrocław, the Rector of the Wrocław University of Technology, the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Governor of Lower Silesia, the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Province, and the Mayor of Wrocław.

The Congress was organised on the Grunwald Campus of the University of Wrocław: at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Wrocław and in the University Library.

The sponsors of the Congress were: Bruker, ChemLand, Oxford Instruments, Renishaw, Spectroscopy Journal MDPI and the University of Wrocław. We are grateful to all sponsors for their support.
