Landscape Day

We invite you to actively participate in the celebration of International Landscape Day, established by the Council of Europe on the initiative of Poland, specifically by the General Directorate for Environmental Protection.

The Landscape Day, organised by the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Wrocław, will take place on the 20th of October 2023. The programme of the event includes lectures, workshops and excursions for participants.

The programme of the event:

10:00 – 11:30 Lectures for everyone (hybrid form: held at the university and on TEAMS)
– Landscapes on other planets of the Solar System – dr Krzysztof Radziszewski
– How mountains are formed? – dr Waldemar Sroka
– Cemeteries in the Lower Silesian landscape – dr inż. Anna Zaręba
– Urban biophilia – dr hab. Alicja Krzemińska

Starting from 11:30: Information on studying at the University
Fields of study: geology, geological engineering, environmental protection, geography, urban planning, tourism, astronomy, physics

Starting from 12:00: Workshops for secondary school students (registration via email)
– Water in the urban landscape. Making the invisible visible – groundwater resources. – dr hab. Sebastian Buczyński, mgr Adam Wojtyna (60 min., 15 participants)
– Water not always means the same. – dr Marta Jakubiak (60 min., 15 participants)
– Is it waste or raw material? – mgr Mateusz Wolszczak, dr hab. Anna Potysz (60 min., 15 participants)
– Radioactivity in the urban environment. – dr hab. Dagmara Tchorz-Trzeciakiewicz (60 min., 15 participants)
– Landscapes inscribed in rocks. – dr Urszula Kosarewicz, mgr Anna Setlik (90 min., 25 participants)
– What kind of landscape is it? Quiz on knowledge about the natural and cultural landscapes of Poland. – dr Krzysztof Parzóch and dr Wojciech Jurkowski (60 min., 15 participants)
– Feeling green in my city – design workshops. – dr hab. Alicja Krzemińska, dr inż. Anna Zaręba (60 min., 15 participants)

Starting from 12:00: Excursions for everyone
(registration via e-mail)
– History written in the landscape of Wrocław – scenic walk through the Old Town in Wrocław; mgr Paulina Miodońska (60min., max. 25 participants).
– QUEST with the Geological Museum (Market Square in Wrocław) mgr Joanna Białek (60-90 min., max. 25 participants)

Starting from 12:00: Creative workshops for students
– Collaborative construction of an insect hotel and installation of the project in the campus courtyard. – dr Wojciech Drzewicki (60 min.)
– Let’s design the landscape of our campus together. SSA of Environmental Protection
