Humankind has been passionately collecting beautiful and unique artifacts for ages. Rare mineral samples and plant or animal fossils turned out to be the most riveting of them even to this day. With time, the collections grew to the point where they have become a source of knowledge for researchers and scientists. The oldest natural collections date back to the 16th and 17th centuries and the oldest Mineralogical Museums in Europe were founded in the 18th century – when the Earth Sciences rapidly developed. In Poland, the first Mineralogical Museum was funded in 1812 and possesses more than 30 000 mineral samples.

During her lecture, Iwona Korybska-Sadło will present the most interesting collections deposited in mineralogical museums including the collections of minerals, meteorites, and gems. She will show the biggest, the smallest, the rarest, and the most common samples which everyone can find during a hike or a walk in the woods. The lecture will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 10 a.m. online and in the Institute of Geological Sciences at the University of Wrocław in room 503 at pl. M. Borna 9.
