Our online guest will be the respected populizer, considered one of the most interesting researchers of environmental history – dr. hab. Tomasz Samojlik (Mammal Research Institute Polish Academy of Sciences Białowieża) with a reading of “Evolution of European bison image and its implications for current species conservation”.

Samojlik is a biologist, situated in the field of environmental history. He focuses on the anthropological changes in the environment in past centuries, especially on innovative research of the relationship between man and Białowieża Primeval Forest, where he lives and works. His research is based on written, iconographic, and archeological sources, combined with his workshop as a naturalist. He is an author of the book “Conservation and Hunting: Białowieża Forest in the Time of Kings” (2005) and the co-redactor of „Puszcza Białowieska w pracach przyrodników 1721–1831” (2004) and “Lądowe ekosystemy nieleśne Białowieskiego Parku Narodowego” (2016). He is also a distinguished illustrator and an author of books for children (e.g. his series about Pompik the European Bison), which he illustrates himself; he is considered one of the most interesting contemporary creators of cartoon literature for children. He is also a great speaker. For his popularization activities, he has received numerous awards and titles, including the “Master in Science Popularisation – Golden Mind” Award (2007), the Artur Rojszczak Award (2010), The Science Popularizer Award from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Science & Scholarship in Poland, 7th edition (2012), The Podlaskan Year’s Brand Award (2020), or the Committee on the Rights of the Child Award (2023).
