The Centre for Research on Children’s and Young Adult Literature at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Wrocław has the honor to invite you to a seminar

Date:

7 June 2024, 09:20 - 14:30

We would like to kindly invite the members and supporters of the Centre for Research on Children’s and Young Adult Literature to a seminar on June 7, 2024, from 9.20 to 14.30, at the Library of the Department of Dutch Studies (Wrocław, ul. Uniwersytecka 28).

Seminars organized twice a year are an opportunity to present the research of the Centre’s members and invited guests.

The program of the June seminar, organized under the slogan “Literature for children and young adult in intergenerational cooperation”, included six different presentations focusing on various aspects of intergenerational relations existing in literature for children and young adult or established through books and magazines for young audiences.

The results of their research will be presented by recognized researchers of children’s and young adult literature from the University of Wrocław: dr Elżbieta Jamróz-Stolarska and dr Bożena Hojka will talk about the bonds between different generations in selected Polish and Portuguese picture books, dr hab. Agnieszka Jagodzińska, prof. UWr will present the Hebrew magazine for children ‘Olam katan’ (1901–1904), and dr Magdalena Ślawska  will focus on translations of Yugoslav literature for children and young adult in the People’s Republic of Poland.

Seminars organized by the Centre are also a great opportunity for discussion for novice researchers. This time, the speakers include two doctoral students: mgr Sylwia Marciniak from the the Faculty of Letters at the University of Wrocław and mgr Agata Żelachowska  from the University of Salamanca, as well as mgr Aleksandra Markiewicz, a graduate of MA course in Dutch Studies.

During the seminar, three projects in which the University of Wrocław is involved will also be presented.

The project ‘Seen and Heard: Young People’s Voices and Freedom of Expression’ will be discussed by its director, dr hab. Justyna Deszcz-Tryhubczak, prof. UWr, and its contractor, dr hab. Mateusz Świetlicki.  This project – implemented in Malta, Germany and Poland during the years 2023 and 2026 – combines education with art, culture and activism. Its goal is to initiate an inclusive social movement of young people who believe that freedom of expression is a fundamental right of ALL people. The partner in the project is Amnesty International Polska.

The assumptions of the unique project ‘The Young to the Younger’ will be presented by the director of the University of Wrocław Press, mgr Marcin Skrabka. As part of this project, the most talented students from the University of Wrocław, under the supervision of UWr employees, are working on a translation of selected works for children and young adults, and the finished translations will be published by WUWr. Dr Magdalena Krzyżostaniak and students from the Institute of Romance Studies will talk about the translation of one of the books from Spanish for the project.

Dr Kinga Kamińska will introduce the seminar participants to the digital collection ‘Lilipucia rewolucja’(eng. The Liliputian revolution), which was created on the initiative of the University of Wrocław in cooperation with the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Thanks to this project, the content from the monograph ‘Lilipucia Rewolucja’ (2018) by Katarzyna Biernackacka-Licznar, Elżbieta Jamróz-Stolarska and Natalia Paprocka has been made available from 2024 on the New Panorama of Polish Literature platform.

The detailed seminar program along with bio notes of the speakers and abstracts of their speeches can be found on the Centre’s website: https://www.cbldm.uni.wroc.pl/seminarium-2024/
