Faculty of Social Sciences at the Lower Silesian Innovation Forum
On 3–4 December 2025, representatives of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wrocław – dr hab. Bartosz Smolik, Paweł Skorb and Damian Wochnik – took part in the Lower Silesian Innovation Forum. The event focused on innovations in space technologies and defence.
The Lower Silesian Innovation Forum was held over two days, each consisting of three sessions. On the first day, discussions addressed the role of the state, the development of the space sector in Lower Silesia, the use of the Ignis mission to promote the sector, cybersecurity, and space innovations from a military perspective. The relationship between space technologies and future security was also explored. On the second day, the debates concentrated on financing the space sector and on presenting case studies related to capital acquisition. Business issues and the regional ecosystem were also discussed. Current trends and innovations in the space industry were reviewed, and participants debated ways of strengthening the Lower Silesian space technology sector. The Forum concluded with a session devoted to the development of competences and to defining a shared space mission involving education, public administration and business.
The development and growing importance of companies operating in the space sector may accelerate the economic growth of Lower Silesia. – The space sector is becoming increasingly visible and appreciated in Poland, including in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. It is listed among the region’s smart specialisations in the Lower Silesian Innovation Strategy 2030. Space companies are high-technology enterprises and can certainly stimulate the development of our region. At the same time, thanks to the many universities in Wrocław, the space industry can rely on a well-educated engineering and scientific workforce – noted Bartosz Smolik.
Damian Wochnik, one of the Forum participants, also emphasised the potential of the innovations discussed at the event. – Participation in the Forum is very important in view of the future of many areas of life. I was particularly impressed by the group of specialists representing various fields of modern technology. In my opinion, innovation is essential for the further development of many sectors, especially those related to security – he commented.
It is worth emphasising that the participation of the Faculty’s representatives in this year’s edition of the Lower Silesian Innovation Forum fits perfectly with Strategic Objective No. 3 (the development of cooperation with the socio-economic environment) set out in the University of Wrocław Development Strategy for 2021–2030.
