The world phenomenon
FameLab was founded in 2005 in Cheltenham, in the UK, as a part of the local science festival, but it quickly won the hearts of the audience worldwide.
Local editions of the contest were organised in over 30 countries on all continents, with over 40,000 participants. Currently, the events are held in Czechia, Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, Malaysia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
In Poland, FameLab was held between 2012-2021 by the British Council Foundation and co-operation with the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw. Nearly 650 participants registered for the Polish edition of the festival – many of them became outstanding science popularisers.
The University of Silesia decided to continue the tradition and bring back the Polish edition of the FameLab, by inviting young researchers to Katowice – the European City of Science.
