First aid at the University of Wrocław
Certified first aid training sessions have begun at the University of Wrocław. In October and November, 500 members of staff will receive training.
As emphasised by Dawid Piekarski, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety and Fire Protection Department at the University of Wrocław, in many emergencies the first few minutes are crucial for the victim’s survival and for minimising the long-term health consequences. Nowhere in the world can emergency services reach a casualty faster than a bystander who witnesses the incident. That is why it is so important to know the principles of first aid.
This is the main reason why certified first aid courses have been launched at the University of Wrocław. A total of 18 sessions have been planned, conducted by specialists from a medical centre.
The training programme includes, among other things: the causes of cardiac arrest, instruction in resuscitation techniques and initial trauma assessment, procedures for treating wounds and musculoskeletal injuries, explanation of circulatory risks, and discussion of non-mechanical causes of injury. Participants also practised simulated rescue operations and child resuscitation. The legal aspects of providing first aid in workplace accidents were also addressed.
The training sessions have been funded by the Director General of the University of Wrocław, Elżbieta Solarewicz.
