
Forum: Work and career in services and military
The “FORUM – WORK AND CAREER IN SERVICES AND MILITARY III – BORDER GUARDS” (hybrid edition) will take place at the Faculty of Social Sciences on the 17th of November 2022. The event is organised by the Centrum Studiów i Edukacji na rzecz Bezpieczeństwa UWr (University of Wrocław Centre for Security Studies and Education) in cooperation with the Department of the Sociology of Security and Education at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Wrocław and the Academic Career Office of the University of Wrocław.
The goal of the “FORUM – WORK AND CAREER IN SERVICES AND MILITARY” project launched last academic year is to deliver reliable and up-to-date knowledge on topics such as the specifics of work/service, tasks and recruitment for the various types of services and the Polish Armed Forces.
To provide the best possible quality of the project’s message and the opportunity to ask questions, the project is conducted as a year-long series, with each event dedicated separately to a specific service or a specific type of the Polish Armed Forces. The subject of the next Forum are the Border Guards. Speakers at the event are active officers and ex-officers of the Border Guards with extensive experience in the mountain, maritime and airport areas.
Students at the University of Wrocław, as well as students of other universities and high schools are invited to take part in the Forum. The meetings take place in a hybrid form or in-person (seating limit).
The current, third edition will take place in a hybrid form on the 17th of November, from 10:30 until 13:00.
The event will be held at ul. Koszarowa 3, room 134 on the first floor of the Institute of Philosophy at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wrocław.
Registration for the event is open until 18:00 on Tuesday, 15th of November 2022.
Programme of the “FORUM – WORK AND CAREER IN SERVICES AND MILITARY III – BORDER GUARDS”:
- A brief historical outline of the creation of the Border Guard of Poland. Outline of the tasks of the Border Guard Troops, the system of securing the state border and its threats, the system of recruitment and training of officers, ensigns and non-commissioned officers. The role of the WOP cadres in the formation of the Border Guard.
- Differences in structure, tasks and powers between the WOP and the Border Guard. The organisational structure and tasks of the Border Guard immediately after its creation and after Poland’s entry into the EU and the Schengen area.
- The current organisational structure of the Border Guard with the division into external and internal borders and maritime borders. Threats to the state border in light of the current political situation. Tasks and powers of the Border Guard in light of contemporary threats.
- Influence of the Border Guards on different areas of security (military security, social security, counter-terrorism, environmental security and economic security). Interaction with other state bodies to secure border integrity and security.
- Recruitment and training of cadres – Border Guard officers at officer, warrant officer and non-commissioned officer level – principles of recruitment, requirements for career development opportunities.
