Free Belarusian University continues to recruit for courses
The Free Belarusian University is continuing enrollment in the course “Narodziny białoruskiego Lewiatana. Dlaczego demokracja parlamentarna przekształciła się w dyktaturę personalistyczną (grudzień 1991 – listopad 1996)?”, which allows participants to expand their knowledge, gain analytical skills and competence in the history of Belarus from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, related to the attainment of sovereignty and the country’s subsequent transition to authoritarian rule.
Lecturer: Professor Wiktar Szadurski.
Why join the course? During the interactive classes, you will have the opportunity to get answers to questions about the reasons for the successes and failures of Belarusians, about the establishment in Belarus of a political system that is known in the world as “the last dictatorship of Europe.”
As part of our work together, you will be able to:
identify the approaches to nation-state building in Belarusian society that existed at the time and make a personal, reasoned assessment of them;
analyse the events and actions of well-known figures from this period and better understand the role of the individual in history;
uncover the objective and subjective reasons for the failure of the democratic transition in Belarus after the first presidential election;
assess the impact of the past (both positive and negative) on contemporary events and get a clearer idea of Belarus’ future development prospects.
