Fundraiser for Sebastian Lewicki
Sebastian Lewicki is the son of Mrs. Dorota Kanuś, an employee of our University, who has been working at the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Letters for several years and enjoys affection of both students and colleagues. Mr. Sebastian is a professional firefighter at the Municipal Command of the State Fire Service in Wrocław, a firefighter at the Volunteer Fire Department in Rzeplin, and the District Commander of the Volunteer Fire Brigades Association in Żórawin, he is dedicated to helping others. With great sadness, we received information about Sebastian’s accident, which happened during the winter break on the sled slope on the Czech side of the Karkonosze Mountains.
On 20th January of this year during the sledding, Mr. Sebastian veered off the track and hit his head on the tree. After the accident, Mr. Sebastian was airlifted to the hospital, where it was discovered that during the accident he sustained craniocerebral trauma, epidural bleed, fractures of the basilar skull, frontal bone, zygomatic bone, nose bone, and damage to the teeth. The collision was so severe that Mr. Sebastian sustained significant contusion, cerebral hemorrhage, and irreversible damage to the frontal lobe.
Mr. Sebastian is not breathing on his own, he is in a pharmacologically-induced coma, and he is awaiting a very complicated surgery. A part of the surgery must involve face reconstruction, however, neither the National Health Fund (NFZ) nor private insurance covers this part of the treatment.
We already know that his family will have to bear enormous expenses. Now it is necessary to finance the essential surgery and then safely transport Sebastian back to Poland. In the following stages, an expensive and difficult rehabilitation will be needed to facilitate the return to normality for Sebastian.
We appeal to the entire community of our University for help in the fundraiser for Mr. Sebatian’s treatment and rehabilitation. You can find the link to the fundraiser here: https://zrzutka.pl/rffc74. We firmly believe that together we can do anything!
