Further EU Funding for the University of Wrocław
The University of Wrocław has secured funding from the European Union for the implementation of the “Science4Business – Science for Business” project. The project is financed under the “European Funds for a Modern Economy 2021–2027” programme. “Science4Business – Science for Business” is being carried out by a consortium led by Wrocław University of Science and Technology, with the University of Wrocław and the University of Zielona Góra as partners. The project’s main objective is to enhance the effectiveness of Technology Transfer Centres and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) affiliated with research organisations in their cooperation with business, particularly through the commercialisation of research and development (R&D) outcomes.
The project consists of three core components:
- Task 1: “Development Incubator” – conducting industrial research and development work on technologies with identified commercial potential, and fostering collaboration between the academic community and industry through know-how and technology transfer, as well as the commercialisation of R&D results.
- Task 2: “Technology Transfer Personnel” – delivering a series of specialist training courses for staff of research organisations involved in commercialisation processes.
- Task 3: “Innovation Portal” – creating a portal showcasing the technological offerings, services, and infrastructure of scientific institutions, while enabling entrepreneurs to connect with innovation brokers operating within research organisations.
The University of Wrocław is responsible for delivering Task 1, which aims to support the commercialisation of the university’s research outcomes and to strengthen its collaboration with the business sector. The activities planned under this task include:
- Mapping research potential and outcomes – analysing opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry, including identifying research teams capable of participating in consortium projects and selecting research results with commercial potential.
- Marketing of technological and research offerings – preparing professional technology and research offers, developing open-access databases, participating in and organising industry events, and conducting negotiations and concluding agreements with business partners.
- Raising the technological and economic readiness of inventions – conducting R&D on inventions with market potential, including prototyping, testing, certification, market analyses, and preparing commercialisation pathways.
- Access to market intelligence and IT tools – supporting research teams and technology transfer units with access to specialist reports, analyses, and databases, as well as implementing systems for intellectual property and commercialisation management.
The project’s target group includes research organisations and institutes, universities, and other stakeholders in the higher education and science system. Task 1 is aimed at researchers, research teams, and doctoral candidates at the University of Wrocław, as well as entrepreneurs, SMEs, startups, business support institutions, and investors interested in adopting innovative technological solutions.
The main outcomes of the project will include completed R&D projects that increase the university’s technology readiness, new patent applications, the establishment of spin-off companies, increased interest in the university’s research offer, and the development of lasting partnerships between academia and industry. A range of training courses will be delivered to build capacity in technology transfer, and a new portal will be launched showcasing the technological, service, and infrastructure offerings of Polish universities and research institutes.
