Geology and tourism – what we walk on in the Sudety Mountains
The Institute of Geological Sciences of the University of Wrocław invites you to another open lecture in the series Secrets of the Earth and the Universe, which will be delivered by a licensed and experienced mountain guide and a graduate in geology from the University of Wrocław – mgr Adam Wojtyna.
– Every tourist wandering along the Sudetic trails marvels at the views, nature and monuments. But do we look at our feet during our mountain walks? Exactly… During each of our hiking trips we step on rocks. Sometimes they are sandstone, sometimes they are the familiar granite, and sometimes they are hard and black basalt. Why do so many different rocks occur side by side in the Sudety Mountains? Where did they come from? How does geology influence the development of tourism and what impact does it have on other aspects of our lives? We will try to find answers to these and other questions during the lecture ‘Geologia a turystyka – czyli po czym chodzę w Sudetach’. It will be a review of the most popular tourist destinations in the Sudetes through the prism of geology – emphasise the organisers.
The lecture ‘Geologia a turystyka – czyli po czym chodzimy w Sudetach’, will be held on Friday 21 March 2025 in a hybrid format (Institute of Geological Sciences, University of Wrocław; M. Borna Square 9, room 220), LINK TO MEETING.
