Guest lecture by prof. Yuheng Li at the Institute of Geography and Regional Development
The Landscape Research Laboratory of the Institute of Geography and Regional Development cordially invites you to a guest lecture, which will take place on Monday, May 12, at 9:30 a.m. in Room 332 of the Institute of Geography and Regional Development, Plac Uniwersytecki1. The lecture, titled “Rural Transformation and Revitalization in China”, will be delivered by prof. Yuheng Li, a world-renowned rural geographer from the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The presentation will explore contemporary processes of rural transformation in China and will be followed by an open discussion and opportunity for exchange of insights and experiences.
About the lecture
China’s rapid socioeconomic transformation over the past few decades has profoundly reshaped urban–rural dynamics, bringing both unprecedented opportunities and serious challenges. While industrialization, urbanization, and technological advancement have driven economic growth, rural areas have experienced rising issues such as depopulation, aging populations, resource depletion, and widening regional disparities. In response, the Chinese government launched the Rural Revitalization Strategy in 2017 as a national priority, aimed at narrowing the urban–rural divide, promoting sustainable development, and ensuring inclusive progress. This lecture will explore the interplay between socioeconomic change and rural revitalization through theoretical frameworks and selected case studies, offering valuable insights into China’s distinctive path toward rural regeneration.
