Checklist

BE PREPARED:

THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL NEED – MAKE A CHECKLIST

Basic items that should be kept in your home at all times are: water, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, clothing and bedding, tools, power sources (batteries). Keep them at home where you will need them most, in one easy-to-carry container such as a trashcan, plastic storage container, hiking backpack or bag. Store them in a convenient place, and keep a scaled-down version in your car. Store contents in airtight bags. Remember to change, stored water and food items (put dates on containers). Check the funds you have accumulated and reassess your needs. Consult your general practitioner or pharmacist about stored medications and update your list of needed medications.

In addition, include: aspirin, painkillers, anti-diarrheal medications, charcoal (for diarrhea and food poisoning), cough syrup, laxatives and hyperacidity medications.

Tools and supplies

Keep the following useful items: battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries of various types, tape, aluminum foil, rope, saw, disposable utensils or paper cups, plastic plates and cutlery, cash, can opener and hand knife, small ABC fire extinguisher, folding tent, pliers, wrench, compass, matches or lighter, plastic boxes, paper and pencil or pen, needles and thread, dropper, whistle. Of sanitary supplies: pre-packaged toilet paper, liquid soap and detergent, sanitary pads and sanitary pads for women, plastic rubbish bags, plastic bucket with lid, disinfectant and chlorine bleach.
