For business
BE PREPARED:
Emergency planning for business
The business environment is just as vulnerable as individuals. Business owners should develop emergency planning for the safety of employees as well as the survival of the business.
Employees need to know how to act in the event of an emergency. You must anticipate and plan your actions before you are faced with a crisis. Your subordinates turn to you for guidance and direction and they will act the same way in a time of emergency.
Planning includes:
- keeping a list of contact numbers for employees so that they can be contacted as soon as possible, or their families if necessary,
- having a plan in place for the safe evacuation of staff and customers,
- practising the plan with staff,
- regularly copying data from computers and storing it offsite,
- taking out insurance to minimise losses,
- defining business procedures in the event of an emergency.
