Technologies supporting teaching processes

We move with the times so we will apply the latest technologies supporting teaching processes (Task 5)

They will ensure full access to participation in the educational process and scientific research for people with disabilities.

Creation of a Virtual Assistive Technology Laboratory

Virtualising computer systems with assistive tools installed and making them available to students 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Connection to the virtual computers can be made from anywhere, the only requirement being access to the Internet. The shared systems can be grouped, based on the shared functionalities, into virtual laboratories or labs, allowing not only free access to specialised IT tools but also conducting remote classes. Virtual computers will be equipped with specialised software. This will ensure access to teaching irrespective of physical limitations, e.g. availability of facilities or university opening hours.

Increasing accessibility to IT services at the university

Purchase of additional wireless devices covering the required information access points and the places in the university buildings most easily accessible to people with disabilities (ground floor of the buildings, main corridors, halls, etc.). This is a prerequisite for using information systems and information made available electronically on the UWr site. Without these measures, it will not be possible for the virtual laboratories mentioned above or applications for reading QR codes located at the marking of university buildings to function efficiently.

Expanding the Local Lending Department operated by the Service Team for Students and Doctoral Students with Disabilities to include the purchase of laptops and a scanner

The purchase of laptops and a scanner to perform adaptations of teaching materials. Considering the increasing number of students with disabilities benefiting from the support of teaching assistants and students with visual impairments reporting the need for alternative electronic teaching materials and Braille printouts, the purchase is necessary to ensure that these students receive appropriate quality in the teaching process.

Creation of specialised computer workstations in the University of Wroclaw laboratories for people with disabilities

The workstations will be equipped with height-adjustable desks and ergonomic armchairs with multi-surface adjustment. In addition, we will acquire reading devices and software adapted to the needs of blind persons, providing access to a wide range of languages and graphic forms, including mathematical and musical notation and the use of Braille printers. We have planned to install rehabilitation voice packages (programmes that enable text to be read from documents and websites) and software for blind and partially sighted people to magnify and read anything on a computer screen with a synthetic voice. Learning and working will also be facilitated by electronic magnifiers, specialised keyboards and a Braille printer, which is equipped with a computer station at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
