
Interuniversity Climate Academy – meeting of Rectors
The third edition of the country’s unique Intercollegiate Climate Academy Postgraduate Studies is being launched, led this year by the University of Wrocław.
The University of Wrocław hosted the rectors of the universities forming the Interuniversity Climate Academy (MAK) on 10 December 2024. The consortium is made up of three leading Polish universities: The University of Wrocław, the Stanislaw Staszic Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Kraków (AGH) and the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH).
The event was attended by prof. dr hab. Jerzy Lis, Rector of AGH, and prof. Piotr Wachowiak, Rector of SGH, and hosted by prof. Robert Olkiewicz, Rector of the University of Wrocław.
The third edition of the country’s unique Intercollegiate Climate Academy Postgraduate Studies is being launched, led this year by the University of Wrocław.
The study programmw is implemented in cooperation with the banking and business sectors, with the aim of educating specialists in the field of climate change and providing practical tools to address the challenges of the climate crisis.
MAK studies are interdisciplinary in nature:
- Technical aspects – AGH,
- Economic and Business – SGH,
- Natural sciences and humanities – UWr (Faculty of Earth and Environmental Management and Faculty of Biological Sciences).
Students receive a joint diploma issued by all three universities, highlighting the uniqueness of this initiative.
During the meeting, cooperation agreements were signed with new MAK content partners:
- Institute for Territorial Development (IRT), represented by director dr Maciej Zather and his deputy, Przemysław Malczewski,
- Wrocław Municipality Office, represented by Katarzyna Szymczak-Pomianowska, Director of the Department of Strategy and Sustainable Development, and Grzegorz Synowec, Deputy Director of the Department of Climate and Energy.
The event was also attended by representatives of the business and social communities, including Sylwia Molewska of the Business for Climate Foundation and Wojciech Hann of KPMG.
During the discussion, the further development of the IAC initiative was discussed, including measures for climate neutrality in cities and regions – the main theme of the third edition of the study.

The Inter-University Climate Academy is an example of a unique academic collaboration that addresses one of the greatest challenges of the modern world.
