Introduction of the Open Access Policy at the University of Wrocław
On 29 January 2026, by the Rector’s Ordinance, prof. Robert Olkiewicz, the University of Wrocław introduced a policy on open access to scholarly publications and research data.
This document represents an important step towards increasing the accessibility, visibility and impact of research results produced at the University of Wrocław, as well as towards supporting the principles of open science. The adoption of the University of Wrocław’s Open Science Policy is aligned with the recommendations of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education set out in the documents “Kierunki rozwoju otwartego dostępu do publikacji i wyników badań naukowych w Polsce” (2015) and “Polityka otwartego dostępu do danych badawczych finansowanych ze środków publicznych” of 16 July 2025.
The open access policy provides for the dissemination of scholarly publications affiliated with the University of Wrocław, in particular through their deposit in the University of Wrocław Repository, as well as by promoting publication in the open access model. Research data underpinning publications should be deposited in the Open Research Data Repository of the Kraków Universities (RodBUK), in the University of Wrocław repository, or in a selected trusted disciplinary repository. This will ensure that research results are freely accessible to the academic community, students and the wider public.
The implementation of this policy constitutes an important element of research transparency and strengthens the position of the University of Wrocław as a modern institution actively engaged in the international exchange of knowledge.
What does this mean for the University of Wrocław community?
The introduction of the open access policy means that staff, doctoral candidates and students of the University of Wrocław will benefit from:
- easier and free access to scholarly publications produced at the University of Wrocław,
- increased visibility of the scholarly output of authors and research teams,
- the possibility of depositing publications in the institutional repository in compliance with applicable copyright law,
- support in meeting funders’ requirements concerning open access to research results,
- active participation in the development of open and transparent science.
Detailed information on the implementation of the policy, procedures for depositing publications and available forms of support will be published on an ongoing basis on the University of Wrocław website.
