IV National Conference of Doctoral Schools
The proceedings of the 4th National Conference of Doctoral Schools, hosted this year by the University of Wrocław, concluded on Friday, 17 April.
The University Library welcomed representatives of 98 doctoral schools from all major academic centers in Poland, including universities, technical universities, art and medical schools, as well as research institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The scale of the event is reflected in the fact that the participating institutions represented 59% of all registered doctoral schools in Poland and, importantly, institutions educating 84% of all doctoral students nationwide. It is therefore no exaggeration to say that the discussions held during the conference reflected the voice of the academic community.
As in previous years, the discussions focused both on evaluating the functioning of doctoral schools, including issues related to evaluation procedures and the effectiveness of doctoral education after six years of the current higher education legislation, and on considering future perspectives and challenges facing universities in the years ahead, such as the role of doctoral schools within society, the impact of artificial intelligence, and the status of doctoral students.
Alongside representatives of doctoral schools, the conference was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Science Evaluation Committee, the National Representation of Doctoral Students, university authorities, and representatives of local government institutions. Both the official debates and informal discussions once again demonstrated that the National Agreement of Doctoral Schools remains an active and much-needed platform for exchanging experiences and expressing opinions on the most important issues affecting the academic community.
Next year’s conference will be held in Szczecin.
