
Lecture by Prof. Melvin Vopson at the Institute of Cultural Studies
The Institute of Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences of the University of Wrocław is pleased to announce that on 13 October 2025, as part of the IDUB visiting professors programme, Prof. Melvin M. Vopson from the University of Portsmouth (United Kingdom).
Bio
Dr. Melvin M. Vopson FHEA, FInstP, CPhys, Associate Professor in Physics and CEO of the Information Physics Institute
Since 2012, Dr Vopson has been a full time Physics academic at the University of Portsmouth. Currently he is Associate Professor in Physics at the University of Portsmouth, Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, Chartered Physicist and Fellow of the Institute of Physics. He is the co-founder and CEO of the Information Physics Institute, Editor-in-Chief of the IPI Letters and Emerging Minds Journal for Student Research.
His previous appointments include two postdoctoral fellowships at the University of York, senior R&D scientist at Seagate Technology (a world leading high-tech company) and over six years as Higher Research Scientist at the UK National Physical Laboratory. Dr Vopson’s major scientific contributions are in the fields of solid state caloric effects, thin film growth technologies, multiferroic materials and their applications, optical characterisation of solids, development of novel metrologies and innovations based on ferroic materials, theoretical studies of non-equilibrium phenomena, fundamental physics and information physics. Dr Vopson has published over 100 research articles, achieving over 3300 citations and an h-index of 29.
