Light, Science and Music at the UWr Faculty of Chemistry
On Thursday, 19 February, the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław hosted the 3rd Wrocław Luminescence Seminar (WSL). The event brought together experts in electron spectroscopy and young researchers from three key institutions: the University of Wrocław, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The seminar was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, dr hab. Marcin Sobczyk, prof. UWr. The academic programme of the meeting was overseen by prof. dr hab. Eugeniusz Zych. In the main session, the following speakers delivered highly engaging lectures:
- dr hab. Bartosz Szyszko, prof. UWr (UWr),
- dr Mykhailo Chaika (INTIBS PAN),
- mgr inż. Agata Hajda (PWr).
An important item on the agenda was also a session of short presentations, featuring dr Aleksandra Pilch-Wróbel (Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research, PAS) and mgr inż. Piotr Leśniak (Military University of Technology; Wrocław University of Science and Technology).
A distinctive highlight of the seminar was a presentation by dr Michał Bień (Academy of Music; Academy of Young Scholars and Artists), who outlined a vision for an interdisciplinary project combining music with the sciences. This idea culminated in an artistic interlude that enhanced the entire event: Dr Bień performed a Prelude on the cello.
The success of this edition confirmed that Wrocław is a strong centre for luminescence research, open to innovative and unconventional approaches.
The organisers invite participants to the next seminar, which will take place on 12 June at the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research, PAS.
