Mathematics and Computer Science meetings at the University
Staff from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science invite you to a meeting as part of a new initiative: Mathematics and Computer Science meetings at the University.
MISIU is a cyclical event that will consist of two lectures – one on mathematics and one on computer science – aimed at secondary school students. It aims to popularise these fields, inspire and encourage students to study science subjects. The lectures will be accessible to a wide audience, and the organisers will make sure that they are also understandable to younger students. Whole classes and their teachers are invited.
The next meeting will take place on Friday, 28 April, in room 25 of the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Wrocław, ul. Joliot Curie 15. We will start at 11:00.
Registration form: LINK
The number of places at the event is limited by the capacity of the room – first come, first served.
PLAN:
– 11:00 – 11:45, Maciej Tadej ‘Jak grzać?’
Nobody wants to freeze in winter, but at the same time nobody wants to go bankrupt because of heating bills. The presentation will discuss the basic principles of heat physics and present different heating strategies based on simulations. The aim is to find practical ways to heat efficiently without excessive costs.
– 12:00 – 13:00, Jerzy Marcinkowski ‘Czy w epoce AI wciąż warto się uczyć matematyki?’
This will be a strange lecture about whether we should believe all the announcements that artificial intelligence will achieve superhuman mathematical competence the day after tomorrow. To do this, we will have to consider what mathematics even is.
