MOFebruary 2026 Symposium at the UWr Faculty of Chemistry

On 10-12 February 2026, the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Wrocław hosted the MOFebruary 2026 Symposium, focused on research into porous materials, including MOFs (eng. Metal-Organic Frameworks). The event was a gesture of recognition by the Polish scientific community towards the winners of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry: Richard Robson, Omar Yaghi, and Susumu Kitagawa. The initiative to integrate the Polish MOF community was met with an enthusiastic response from many scientists – over 70 participants representing numerous universities and research institutes from Poland and abroad took part in the symposium.

The event was organised by dr hab. inż.  Wojciech Bury, prof. UWr, at the Faculty of Chemistry (Reticular Chemistry and Catalysis Team), together with dr Marzena Pander from the Jagiellonian University and dr Min Ying Tsang from Łukasiewicz – PORT in Wrocław. The symposium was patronised by the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław, dr hab. Marcin Sobczyk, prof. UWr, and the prof. dr hab. Anna M. Trzeciak was the honorary chairwoman. The event was also held under the patronage of the Main Council of the Polish Chemical Society. Thanks to financial support from the University of Wrocław Research University Excellence Initiative (IDUB UWr) and the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław, participation in the event was free of charge for all attendants.

The symposium was officially opened by prof. Wojciech Bury, who presented the idea behind the event and the need to integrate scientists involved in research in the field of porous materials in Poland. On this occasion, Vice-Dean Katarzyna Cieślik-Boczula read a letter from the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Wrocław, and then prof. Tomasz Olszewski, head of the Wrocław branch of PTChem, welcomed the participants. As a part of an event, prof. Steffano Canossa from ETH Zurich and prof. Stefan Wuttke from AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków lectured on invitation. The scientific programme also included 19 lectures and oral presentations by experienced researchers from Poland (Gdańsk, Kraków, Poznań, Warsaw, Wrocław), as well as a poster session (25 entries). Additionally, on the third day, a specialised crystallography workshop was held, entitled „Professional single-crystal diffraction analysis inside and outside the average box”, held by prof. Stefano Canossa.

MOFebruary 2026 Symposium became a platform for discussion, exchange of experiences, presentation of the latest research results and an opportunity to establish new collaborations. Despite the spontaneous character of the event, the high attendance and high level of expertise at the symposium confirmed the growing importance of MOF research in the Polish scientific community.  More detailed information about the event can be found on the Faculty of Chemistry website.
