Mondays with WUWr #1

There’s a lot going on at the University of Wrocław Press and we want to keep you informed!

With this post, we start #mondayswithWUWr. We will keep you informed about the most important book launches, events and promotions, invite you to publications and describe what’s new! Today is the first Monday summary. For more, visit wuwr.eu!

Book pre-sale Błękitny fin de siècle

A pre-sale is underway for the most beautiful academic book of this spring – Błękitny fin de siècle. Kolor niebieski w kulturze i literaturze Młodej Polski (Gabriela Zapolska – Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer – Stanisław Wyspiański) by prof. Justyna Bajda, Institute of Polish Studies, University of Wrocław. We recommend this monograph, in which elegance, eroticism, art and literature merge into a colourful mosaic. The book is an extraordinary meeting with people who found inspiration, artistic expression and the manifesto of their epoch in blue, and a story about a world that – it seems – could not exist without blue.
All those who purchase the book will receive their copy before the launch!

New in the e-monograph series for free download

The latest book by Professor Marek Szydło from the Institute of Administrative Sciences – Sądowa kontrola decyzji organów regulacyjnych poprzez ich uchylanie is now available for free download in the online bookstore – HERE. The author’s considerations mainly concern the peculiar form of court decisions, which are judgments overruling decisions of regulatory bodies. The work shows that a verdict of a common court overturning a decision of a regulatory authority is a substantive decision, but it does not have a cassation character and it does not send the case back for re-settlement by the regulatory authority. The publication was prepared as part of a research project financed by the National Science Centre.

Working in Publishing – we are looking for a publisher and lead editors

The University of Wrocław Press, due to a major reorganisation and new challenges, is looking for a publisher/product manager for books and scientific journals and experienced editors for scientific journals and monographs to join its team. Please visit the website to read details about these job vacancies: https://wuwr.eu/kariera/. We invite you to apply!

New issue of the journal Praktyka Teoretyczna

The latest issue of Praktyka Teoretyczna (https://wuwr.pl/prt/issue/view/988), dedicated to the political dimension of art/literature autonomy, has been published on the Czasopisma Naukowe w Sieci platform, particularly in the context of recent academic debates around the topic. The immediate basis of the issue is the “intentionalist” account of autonomy – developed in recent years by authors such as Walter Benn Michaels and Nicholas Brown – and the idea of a “social ontology” of art/literature.

We encourage you to use the open-access journals platform and to go to the publisher’s online bookshop for paper editions.
