Słowo i obraz w błękicie
Word and image in blue
Blue holiday skies remain a memory and the University is back to work at full speed Speaking of the University of Wrocław Press, expect new publications soon and take a look at this year’s excellent issues In the latest Przegląd Uniwersytecki, in addition to an interview with director Marcin Skrabka, we recommend two publications:
‘Książka i biblioteka w wybranych pracach Umberta Eco’ by Anna Lubińska – this publication, enriched with illustrations and drawings by Eco, gathers the themes appearing in his work concerning the role of the book in society and the book-library-reader relationship. What emerges is the image of a bibliophile who expressed his views through various means of expression and used scientific knowledge in literary works, remembering that it is thanks to the reader that a book ‘becomes a book’
‘Toksofilos. Szkoła łucznictwa w dwóch księgach’ – Unique on the publishing market, the first Polish translation of the work Toxophilus, a sixteenth-century treatise on archery and also one of the first didactic texts written in English A book for all those who would like to discover how the rapidly changing times and customs of Renaissance Europe can be commented on using the example of the bow.
We have also given the full cover to the most beautiful academic book of the year We would like to remind you of ‘Błękitny fin de siècle’ by Justyna Bajda – a study that takes us on an extraordinary journey, describing the phenomenon of the colour blue in the culture of Young Poland It transfers the blue atmosphere of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries from France to Poland, showing the functioning of blue in selected spaces of life and art. The history of the meaning of the colour and its use is a pretext for looking at selected works by Gabriela Zapolska, Kazimierz Przerwy-Tetmajer and Stanisław Wyspiański, in whose work blue is clearly visible.
Who does not yet have Błękitny fin de siècle Justyna Bajda (wuwr.eu) – be sure to enrich your bookcase or make someone an exceptionally beautiful and clever gift!
By the way, we recommend another book review – this time in issue 7-8 of Forum Akademickie!
