W poszukiwaniu religii uniwersalnej
Dr Tomasz Szymański’s exceptional book awarded in the Golden Series of the University of Wrocław is now available for sale! W poszukiwaniu religii uniwersalnej. Zarys historii pewnej idei i jej wybrane postacie w dziewiętnastowiecznej literaturze francuskiej | Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego (wuwr.eu)
What do we mean when we talk about universal religion? Today, when religious pluralism is the order of the day as an inseparable element of the democratic Western world, the question of universal religion arises somewhat naturally. Its perspective inevitably appears on our cultural horizon, marked on the one hand by the multiplicity of religions surrounding us, and on the other by the ideals of universalism and tolerance guiding us.
In view of the emotions sometimes aroused by the thought of the possible emergence of a new global religion in the future, it seems all the more useful to undertake a factual reflection on the past of this idea. For it is nothing new, and a closer look at the history of Western culture and thought allows us to conclude that it has a long history.
Moreover, it is an extremely important subject in the history of ideas, linked to other fields: literature, religious studies, philosophy of religion, political science, law or Western esotericism. This is because the history of ideas studies ideas expressed in the totality of cultural phenomena and fields: it examines their genesis and development, trying to grasp how they manifested and existed in different cultural and social contexts. Such an approach to the problem obviously requires interdisciplinary reflection. Also, our considerations will be located at the intersection of various fields of science, knowledge and culture, but a special place will be given to the relationship between the history of ideas and literature.
We encourage you to read! In the autumn promotion, you can buy this unique novel for PLN 62.30 instead of PLN 89.00!
Medialne koncepty rzeczywistości — persony, dyskursy, fenomeny
We recommend to you Volume 21 (2024) of the journal „Dziennikarstwo i Media”, in which the authors addressed contemporary transformations in communication, where the boundaries between everyday life and its digital variants are blurring. The medialized reality takes the audience on a cognitive swing – on the one hand, it is intimate confessions, and on the other, it is digitized narratives created by algorithms and app developers. The authors analyze the phenomenon of mediocracy and point to the blurring of traditional social and cultural roles, replaced by new, fluid identities, which are increasingly defined by market mechanisms. They do not offer ready answers, but point out areas where decisions about the future are no longer made by audiences, but by algorithm developers.
