We are proud to announce that the debut of the University of Wrocław Press in the Gaudeamus competition, organised by the Higher Education Publishers Association and aimed at honoring and promoting the most valuable Polish scientific and didactic books, ended with a distinction for Justyna Bajda’s book “Błękitny fin de siècle. Kolor niebieski w kulturze i literaturze Młodej Polski (Gabriela Zapolska – Kazimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer – Stanisław Wyspiański)” for editorial qualities!
The book, prepared with extraordinary care and knowledge covering not only the areas of literary studies and art history, but much more, includes nearly a hundred illustrations presenting the use of the color blue in art and literature at the turn of the century. In addition, there are a glossary of French names of pigments and their shades, fashion terms and explanations of the symbolic meaning of flowers. On the inside of the wrapper, the reader will discover a color chart showing the differences between the blue of the chicory flower, the blue of the swallow’s plumage, royal blue, southern seas and dozens of others!
We highly recommend this book, also for a gift! In the autumn promotion until the end of October, you can buy it at WUWr with a 30% discount!

Młody ksiądz wobec wyzwań komunikacyjnych – an innovative textbook
Clergy, which we don’t always realize, also struggle with stress, loneliness, a sense of meaninglessness in their ministry, and consequently professional burnout. Being a young priest in Poland at the beginning of the 21st century is a particularly difficult challenge, because one is entangled in relationships with an often hostile environment. Agnieszka Janiak’s book Młody ksiądz wobec wyzwań komunikacyjnych is intended to improve the lives of priests who, entering roles that are new to them, need support and practical advice.
The author takes a close look, first of all, at what is sometimes neglected or overlooked in contacts between priest and faithful and between priests themselves. She advises how to listen and how to avoid conflicts. The first part of the book, Pomóc sobie, provides tips on communication in the broadest sense and on how to cope with parish daily life and overwhelming responsibilities. In the second, Pomóc innym, the author suggests how to build relationships with parishioners during the most difficult moments of their lives: during illness, dying and bereavement. She shows how to tame the fear of death.
The publication takes the form of an innovative handbook. It is directed to priests, but can also be useful to others working in the helping professions. Agnieszka Janiak shares with the readers the experience she has gained from the numerous classes and workshops she has conducted. Each named and described problem is accompanied by the author’s suggestions for solutions in the form of exercises and concrete actions. As a result, her book is a compendium of knowledge not only on how to be a priest, but also a fulfilled and happy person.
The book with the patronage of DEON.pl, the Sunday Visitor and the double patronage of Sunday will soon be on the shelves of WUWr.
