Magia i pismo in PROZA club – meeting with dr Michał Rydlewski
We cordially invite the academic community – especially those who are close to communication issues – to the premiere meeting with Michał Rydlewski from the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication, author of the book “Magia i pismo. O dwóch odmianach komunikowania: obrazowym i pojęciowym”. This remarkable book was awarded the Rector’s Prize of the University of Wrocław and was published in the prestigious Gold Series.
“Magia i pismo” significantly expands the knowledge of the process of its umagicization taking place in Western culture. It is related to technological changes in the modern world, the departure of culture from writing as the main medium of communication, the bankruptcy of Reason, the development of capitalism and the loss of ontological security for humans. The humanities are also becoming magical, as exemplified by posthumanism and the new animism, which are not only ways of magically “knowing” reality, but project new patterns of being-in-the-world that take into account the presence of magic in it and, as it were, legitimize its perspective of looking at reality.
“Magia i pismo” is an eminently interdisciplinary book, the author moves seamlessly through the fields of cultural anthropology, philosophy, psychology, literary and media studies showing the multifaceted nature of tracking magic from the perspective of these disciplines.
Are we magical? Why do people turn to magic? What do we not experience without writing? We will be looking for answers to all these questions in Proza, 28 November from 18:00. You are cordially invited!
The meeting will be moderated by Dominika Tworek – a social journalist, she looks at the phenomena of contemporary culture with a critical eye. He currently publishes in Polityka, Zwierciadło, Przegląd, Holistic News portal, ZNAK monthly magazine. Other publication venues include: Tygodnik Powszechny, WPROST, Pismo. Magazyn Opinii, Dwutygodnik or Focus.

An innovative handbook for priests and those working in the helping professions
We would like to inform you that now available in the bookstore of the University of Wrocław Press is the book of dr Agnieszka Janiak “Młody ksiądz wobec wyzwań komunikacyjnych”
