Mondays with WUWr #47
We have great news for all those who are planning to publish a scientific book. On Friday, 14 March 2015, Ordinance No. 65/2025 of the Rector of the University of Wrocław concerning the possibility of obtaining funding from the Rector’s Fund for publishing with WUWr came into force. The University of Wrocław Press has already prepared an iconography and compiled the most important information summarising the changes to the regulations on support for publications from the Rector’s Fund.
In brief, the funds can be used for:
- publication of scientific monographs (authored or multi-authored) and jubilee or commemorative books of distinguished employees of the University of Wrocław,
- covering the costs of open access to monographs and scientific articles on the Internet,
- language corrections of publications in foreign languages,
- translation of monographs or scientific articles into foreign languages.
University of Wrocław employees and doctoral students from the Doctoral School of the University of Wrocław preparing dissertations in scientific disciplines evaluated at the university may apply for support. Applications can be submitted electronically on a continuous basis.
All necessary details can be found on the website.
From the latest book announcements, which will soon be published by the Publishing House, we recommend ‘Wartości urzeczywistniane kultury czynnej Jerzego Grotowskiego’ by Przemysław Radwański. This will be a publication that uncovers a little-known stage of Grotowski’s work, focusing on his paratheatrical experiments off-stage. Rather than an academic analysis, the author creates an evocative story full of images and metaphors in an attempt to capture the essence of his work. This is reading for theatre scholars, cultural researchers and art enthusiasts who wish to understand Grotowski’s philosophy and his search for authenticity in art.
The latest journals have been launched at www.wuwr.pl:
Vol. 32 (2024) ‘Estudios Hispánicos’-edited by Magdalena Krzyżostaniak, Małgorzata Spychała-Wawrzyniak and Aleksander Wiater-is dedicated to the topics of mediation and intercultural communication in teaching Spanish as a foreign language (ELE).
In this issue you will find, among other things: a discussion of the role of linguistic and cultural mediation in language education, strategies and techniques to develop students’ intercultural competences, an analysis of linguistic (in)politeness and audiovisual translation. Practical tips for DELE examinations and academic presentations and an article on the role of the teacher as a mediator of cultural meanings and content will also be useful.
Volume 22 (2024): ‘Dziennikarstwo i Media’: Oddziaływanie mediów – pomiędzy gustem muzycznym a agitacją polityczną
The latest issue of the journal addresses the function of the media in the context of digitalisation and its impact on contemporary society. The articles analyse the role of traditional media, such as the press, radio and television, which still perform important informational, cultural and mobilising functions, despite the growing dominance of social media. Katarzyna Siwczyk’s article discusses the role of the media in creating the identity of Silesians, while the text by Mateusz Kowalski and other researchers examines propaganda techniques in TV editions of the ‘Wiadomości’. Julia Książek’s article presents the communication strategies of city mayors in social media during the pandemic. The issue also features analyses on Eurovision and a review of a monograph on media accountability. The journal focuses on the adaptation of traditional media to new communication models and their integration with digital media.
In addition, the Publishing House, together with the Student Association for International and European Law – Sympathizers and the KWSM Eastern Association for International Relations, would like to invite you to an open meeting with the author around the book ‘Spór o Wyspy Kurylskie’ by dr hab. Rafał Czachor, prof. UJW.
