“Winogrady i winne wzgórza” – press conference and author meeting
On 4 June, the University of Wrocław Press and the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship will host a press conference dedicated to Professor Dagmara Adamska’s book Winogrady i winne wzgórza. Uprawa i produkcja wina na średniowiecznym Śląsku, as well as to regional vineyards and the growing field of wine tourism in Lower Silesia. The event will serve as a preview of the author meeting taking place on 5 June at 6:00 p.m. in the Cultural Salon of the Library of the University of Wrocław (ul. Fryderyka Joliot-Curie 12).
This is a unique opportunity to discover the fascinating history of winemaking in Silesia – a region that, for centuries, was one of Central Europe’s key centres of wine production. Professor Dagmara Adamska, a medievalist and art historian affiliated with the Institute of History at the University of Wrocław, will take participants on a journey through medieval vineyards, uncovering the secrets of historical cultivation techniques, table traditions, the cultural and social significance of wine, and the stories of Silesian vintners.
The event will be hosted by Nestor Kościański – owner of Moderna Vineyard in the Trzebnickie Hills, an enthusiast and promoter of wine tourism, co-creator of the popular “Żar Wino” pop-ups and initiator of the Trzebnickie Vineyard Trail. His expertise and dedication to the development of Polish winemaking promise an inspiring conversation about the past and present of Silesian vineyards.
This is a perfect occasion to talk about a somewhat forgotten, yet increasingly rediscovered, aspect of the region’s heritage. Pedagogia pozytywna w edukacji przedszkolnej i wczesnoszkolnej – author meeting
A reminder: tomorrow (3 June) at 4:30 p.m. at the Lower Silesian Pedagogical Library in Wrocław, a meeting will take place around the book Positive Pedagogia pozytywna w edukacji przedszkolnej i wczesnoszkolnej, edited by dr Marta Kondracka-Szala and Weronika Mazurek from the Institute of Pedagogy.
This is an opportunity to discuss modern trends in early childhood education, strengthening children’s strengths, building relationships, and creating environments that support development. The meeting will be led by dr Urszula Tobolska, educator and specialist in bibliotherapy.

Discover the fascinating history of Polish-Jewish relations through Monika Jaremków’s book Historia obecności. Przekłady literatury żydowskiej w polskim repertuarze wydawniczym w XX wieku. For centuries, Jews and Poles lived side by side, closely, yet often culturally apart. Literary exchange between the two traditions was limited, as exemplified by Czesław Miłosz, who only encountered Jewish culture in New York, through the English language. Yet, as the author demonstrates, the 20th century saw many efforts to bridge that divide, despite historical trauma and numerous barriers.
Dr Monika Jaremków examines the presence of Jewish literature translated from Hebrew and Yiddish on the Polish publishing market, both before and after the Second World War. The book covers not only fiction, novels, poetry, and children’s literature but also historical and journalistic texts. This broad scope reveals how Jewish literature was represented and received in Polish culture.
Karl Dedecius, the renowned translator and promoter of Polish literature in Germany, once described translation as a form of diplomacy and a tool of intercultural dialogue. Monika Jaremków’s Historia obecności powerfully affirms this view.
The book is based on the author’s doctoral dissertation, in which she meticulously traced the history and reception of Polish translations of Yiddish and Hebrew literature. Her research spans 318 translations, identified through extensive archival work in libraries across Poland and abroad, and presents them within the broader context of foreign literature and 20th-century Polish-Jewish cultural exchange.
