Zwrot ekologiczny w edukacji i kulturze. Nowa wrażliwość młodego pokolenia

The third volume in the series Kultura literacka dzieci i młodzieży, the book Zwrot ekologiczny w edukacji i kulturze. Nowa wrażliwość młodego pokolenia, edited by dr Sabina Waleria Świtała, Justyna Zając, Justyna Szumańska, Anna Maciejewska, and prof. Dorota Michułka, is now on sale! This is a polyphonic reflection on the role of education, literature, and art in shaping ecological awareness, empathy, and agency among young people.

In the face of an escalating climate and ecological crisis, one of the greatest challenges of contemporary humanities is to explore how literature, art, and educational practices can cultivate ecological consciousness, pro-environmental attitudes, and a new sensitivity — one that is open to relationships between humans and non-human inhabitants of the planet.

Zwrot ekologiczny w edukacji i kulturze. Nowa wrażliwość młodego pokolenia is an interdisciplinary reflection that resounds with questions about the future of our shared planet. The authors draw upon various academic disciplines — from the humanities and social sciences (literary studies, philosophy, sociology, psychology) to the natural sciences (physics, zoology, biology, Earth sciences) — to show how ecocritical and posthumanist approaches to interpreting literary texts, reinforced by empathy and care, can open young minds to new ways of understanding, experiencing and empathising with the world.

The publication is addressed not only to scholars of the humanities, sciences, and natural sciences, but also — due to its focus on educational practices — to teachers, students, librarians, and anyone who cares about environmental protection, ecocentric thinking, and post-anthropocentric understandings of reality, where every form of life matters and has a voice.

The Kultura literacka dzieci i młodzieży series is devoted to exploring the role and function of children’s and young adult literature in today’s world. It highlights the notion of childhood culture (in its sociological and psycho-pedagogical aspects) and enables interdisciplinary research into texts intended for young audiences — for instance, through literary analysis, or by examining creativity related to children and childhood as a cultural reference point (as addressee, theme, or inspiration), as well as cross-disciplinary exploration of childhood motifs. It does so in the context of literature’s relationship with visual arts, new media, aesthetics, publishing, and broadly understood humanities education, including both theory and practice of literary reception.

In this way, the series contributes to the field of research into literary culture — understood as the realm of texts, creativity, and reception — considered in relation to social communication, literary audiences, and the social circulation of literature. Highly recommended!

Last chance! Only a few discounted copies left

The University of Wrocław Press is offering the last available copies of several titles at a special promotional price.

These include:
Od narodowości do mniejszości narodowych w Polsce | Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego – this work focuses on the issue of national minorities in Poland, set in a broad historical context stretching from the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth through the interwar period, the People’s Republic of Poland, and into the present day. The author does not merely synthesise existing knowledge but seeks to show how foreigners arriving in Poland became nationalities of the Commonwealth, and how native groups of the former state evolved into nations or national minorities. The book explores the complexity of this process, the challenges it brings, the expectations of minorities, and their perception in nationwide surveys.

Wspólnota ekspertów. Zarządzanie marką kraju | Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego – should a country become an object of marketing? For many, the question has already been answered: effective nation branding is essential for competitiveness and influence. The author of this book traces the evolution of this phenomenon, showing how theories and ideas shape social reality. The book explores the relationship and interpenetration between the community of experts and the media, which together shape sociopolitical conditions. It offers insights into how expert knowledge is perceived and utilised in late modernity.

Autyzm w ujęciu psycholingwistycznym Terapia dyskursywna a teoria umysłu | Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego – autism, the author explains, poses a profound challenge for children, their families, and therapists alike. The autistic child, resistant to both their own improvement and to social engagement, presents a unique challenge in therapeutic contexts. Each case of autism puts our existing knowledge to the test. The author argues that “autism can be overcome with the right theory,” and presents her long-developed method of discursive therapy as such a tool. Across eleven chapters, the book first discusses autism in light of current research, then presents the author’s own clinical studies, including a detailed 60-page case study, therapeutic methods used, and final conclusions.
