Mondays with WUWr #68. Open access to WUWr publications

The dissemination of research results in an open access model became one of the most important standards of scholarly communication – effective, necessary and more and more expected by the academic community and audiences outside of the university. We would like to encourage you to use Scientific Journals Online and read the monographs available for free by the University of Wrocław Press.

The open access model is a crucial element of responsible and modern research publishing. It provides free access to scientific content, increases the visibility of publications, facilitates their citation and expands the audience, not only within the academic community but also among professors, cultural institutions, public administration and every person who is interested in reliable knowledge.

The openness promotes the presence of international publications. Texts that are available in open access are more frequently read, cited and used for further research, which matters for both the authors and the research teams and institutions, where they are created. It is also a way to permanently archive the results of research and ensure their long-term availability.

For authors, it means a broader reach of their works and for readers – the access to current and reliable content without any restrictions, regardless of location or institutional affiliation. Free of charge access to scientific publications enables sharing of knowledge at the university with the social and economic environment and strengthens the perception of science as a common good. It is specifically important for publicly funded research, whose results can be used in education, public debate and social practice.

At the University of Wrocław Press, we consistently expand our offering of “open” monographs, considering them as an integral part of the University’s mission and contemporary standards of scholarly publishing.
