Inspiracje z Pragi

In recent days, in addition to the presentation of the book Błękitny fin de siècle at the International Book Fair in Warsaw, a representation of the Publishing House was also present at the International Book Fair and Literary Festival Svět Knihy in Prague. During the visit to Prague’s Holesovice, the WUWr delegation sought inspiration for publishing scientific and popular science books. Through meetings with Czech publishers, it was possible to establish contacts that will result in, among other things, translations of Czech popular science publications by students and academics of the Institute of Slavic Studies in the coming months.

Anglica Wratislaviensia 61.2 | American Culture in Games and Game Studies

A promotional event for issue 61.2 of the journal Anglica Wratislaviensia will take place tomorrow, 28 May, at 18:00. The issue’s editor, dr hab. Agata Zarzycka, will talk to the authors, and the aim of the meeting will be to develop selected topics raised in the publication – in particular, a reflection on the elements common to the individual articles and the links between the issue’s themes and the broader cultural context. The starting point for the debate will be the theme of the importance of digital games to US culture, as well as the country’s influence on the medium of games. These issues will form the basis for a broader reflection on localities and the role of geopolitics in culture. Examples of issues discussed include:

  • the influence of the American historical legacy on tropes specific to digital and role-playing games
  • discursive and ideological approaches to games in comparison to other media of American pop culture
  • games as a reflection of perceptions of the US through the lens of media culture
  • the importance of the author’s national identity for the perception of the culture of a specific geopolitical area.

The ONLINE meeting, organised with the support of the Good Culture Foundation, will be available to watch on the Publishing House’s YouTube channel: University of Wrocław Press – YouTube
