Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject is one of the most important university rankings which reviews two thousand universities across the globe in 11 different subjects. The same factors were counted as the ones in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 general ranking published at the end of September, however, the methodology was adjusted to each discipline.
University disciplines were reviews in 5 areas: teaching, research environment (including the reputation, the amount of money dedicated to the discipline and productivity), research quality (publications and citations), international outlook (internationalising of the staff, students and research cooperation) and industry (income from the knowledge transfer to the industry and patents).
Each of the areas consisted of few factors, in total there were 18 of them and each of them had a determined weighting which influenced the final result. The weighting differentiated depending on the subject.
The data used to create the ranking was obtained from various sources: questionnaires filled by the universities, the Scopus bibliography base (publications and citations) and research on the reputation of each of the subjects conducted by the Times Higher Education scientists from all over the world.
Full results from the ranking can be found on the website. The methodology used in the ranking can be found here.
