National Geographic: How did our ancestors fight disease?

This has been verified by researchers from the University of Wrocław and the Wrocław Medical University. National Geographic has just written about the research project „Odtworzenie i analiza preparatów leczniczych zidentyfikowanych na podstawie egodokumentów epoki staropolskiej (XVI-XVIII wiek)” (Reconstruction and analysis of medicinal preparations identified on the basis of Old Polish documents (16th-18th century)).

The project also resulted in a scientific workshop in March, organised by the University of Wrocław in cooperation with the Medical University and the Museum of Pharmacy. They dealt with the history of science, including the subject of reconstructing historical medicines.

The main idea of the event – under the motto „Rekonstrukcja historyczna: dotykanie przeszłości” – was to create a platform for researchers from different disciplines using reconstruction methods as research tools to exchange experiences. And you can read about what our historian dr Jakub Węglorz found by analysing old Polish diaries, letters, diaries, private notes and by doing research in the laboratory in National Geographic:

Ahead of our students is another fascinating study. This time devoted to animal anatomy. Details to follow soon.
