Nauka na Fali at the University of Wrocław
We invite you to an extraordinary event from the Nauka na Fali series – a report from the expedition of students of the University of Wrocław to Spitsbergen in the far Arctic, aboard the sailing ship STS Generał Zaruski. This exceptional journey combined scientific research, maritime education, and media-communication workshops in one of the most beautiful yet most unforgiving places on Earth.
Among the highlights of the meeting will be a screening of films documenting the geological expedition of students and researchers from the University of Wrocław to the Arctic – the GeoArctic Expedition 2025. Dr Tomasz Rożek will also speak about his passion for geology. Participants will have an opportunity to hear students’ stories about geology and sailing, as well as to discuss joint projects of the Nauka.To Lubię Foundation and future plans with the University of Wrocław’s Student Geological Society. There will also be conversations with invited guests, including:
Captain Marcin Dobrowolski – captain of STS Generał Zaruski, under whose command the sailing ship returned to Spitsbergen after fifty years. An experienced sailor, instructor, and sailing teacher whose life is deeply connected with the sea. He has sailed around the world, rounded Cape Horn twice, and served in positions ranging from deckhand to captain on tall ships, yachts, and vessels.
Dr Tomasz Rożek – officer of STS Generał Zaruski, physicist, science journalist, and one of Poland’s best-known science communicators, as well as founder of the Nauka.To Lubię Foundation. He has extensive experience in academic media communication and science communication.
Captain Adam Walczukiewicz – captain of STS Generał Zaruski, officer, instructor, and educator. Since 2014 he has been involved in the South Coast Baltic project, promoting the southern Baltic coast as a sailing destination.
Captain Mirosław Bielecki – boatswain of STS Generał Zaruski, yacht and motorboat captain, and marine engineer. He oversaw the ship’s reconstruction as the shipowner’s representative and is responsible for maintaining the vessel in proper condition.
The event will take place on 5 December 2025, from 11:00 to 13:00, in Room 3D (A. Mycielski Hall) at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University of Wrocław, pl. Uniwersytecki 7.
