„NIE!straszna Biblioteka 2.0” – 2026 edition
After great interest in the first edition in 2025, the Library of the University of Wrocław once again opens its doors for lovers of books, history, and culture! The second edition of „NIE!straszna Biblioteka 2.0” (eng. The Not-So-Scary-Library 2.0 – translator’s suggestion) will take place in 2026. It is oriented towards high school students. This event aims to demystify the image of a library as a quiet and serious place and to show it as an open, friendly, passionate, and inspirational space.
During this year’s edition, participants will be able to view our Library from a completely different perspective – as an institution where tradition meets modernity and history meets imagination. Faculty members have prepared a unique presentation showing that comic books are not only entertainment, but also an important part of culture and heritage. They will demonstrate how illustrations and storytelling can convey world changes, emotions, and ideas – from ancient myths to contemporary stories.
Another activity will be a lecture and a presentation of a medieval text. A curator will present an original XIV-century manuscript from special collections. De Natura Rerum (R 174) was created by Thomas of Cantimpré to be used as an encyclopedia of knowledge about the world. Medieval scholars derived from it their knowledge about nature’s wonders. It presents captivating ideas about creatures and plants according to their imagination. You can look at giraffes resembling elephants, dragons, or crocodiles with whimsical appearances. This manuscript, for centuries, was a fountain of knowledge, curiosity, and imagination, and now it stands as a valuable artifact of culture and science.
„NIE!straszna Biblioteka 2.0” is a unique occasion to look behind the curtains of a scientific institution, view original collections, meet people who take care of them, and find out that the Library of the University of Wrocław is a vibrant place open to people, questions, and discoveries.
