The Library of the University of Wrocław is delighted to invite secondary school students to a unique event – the premiere edition of NIE!straszna Biblioteka – Open Days at the Library of the University of Wrocław. This is a unique opportunity to discover the fascinating world of science, culture and modern library technology!
When? From 31 March to 15 May.
For whom? Students in grades 3 and 4 of secondary school.
Why take part? Visiting the Library – students will have the opportunity to see one of the most modern academic libraries in Poland from the inside. They will learn about its rich collections, modern technologies and what it is like to work with extraordinary historical documents. They will discover the secrets of digitising collections and see how precious books and manuscripts are saved from destruction. Experts will talk about the digitisation process and its importance for science and culture. It is a fascinating journey from medieval books to modern databases! Participants will also take part in a special comic book show and discover how popular culture infiltrates the world of science and art!
Library staff have also prepared a unique presentation that shows that comics are not just entertainment, but also an important part of culture and history. An unusual highlight will be a unique lecture and presentation of a medieval manuscript – a curator from the Special Collections will present the original of the extraordinary manuscript De Natura Rerum by Thomas de Cantimpré. This is a rare opportunity to see a medieval work on nature, knowledge and philosophy – a real treasure from centuries ago!
The Open Days at the Library are an excellent opportunity for students to not only expand their knowledge, but also to be inspired to further their academic development. This is an event that will long be remembered by young enthusiasts of literature, history and new technologies!
