Oblicza lingwistyki stosowanej: specjalizacja w przekładzie – wyzwania, konsekwencje i ograniczenia

The Department of Translation Studies of the Institute of English Studies at the University of Wrocław invites everyone interested to the scientific session entitled „OBLICZA LINGWISTYKI STOSOWANEJ: SPECJALIZACJA W PRZEKŁADZIE – WYZWANIA, KONSEKWENCJE I OGRANICZENIA” (“DIMENTIONS OF APPLIED LINGUISTRY: SPECIALISATION IN TRANSLATION – CHALLENGES, CONSEQUENCES AND LIMITATIONS”), which will begin on Friday, 23 May from 10:00 on the ZOOM platform.

Biographies of speakers:

Dr hab. Anna Jopek-Bosiacka, University of Warsaw – author of numerous publications on legal translation and legal communication, including the monographs Przekład prawny i sądowy (PWN, 2021, 2nd revised edition), Teoretycznoprawne i logiczne uwarunkowania przekładu prawnego (Wolters Kluwer, 2019), and Legal Communication: A Cross-Cultural Perspective (University of Warsaw Press, 2010). She is a sworn translator of English, a legal advisor, a member of the Legal Language Team of the Polish Language Council, and of The International Language and Law Association (ILLA). She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Lingua Legis and is an assistant professor at the Institute of Applied Linguistics of the University of Warsaw, the oldest academic unit in Poland dedicated to translator training.

Dr hab. Tomasz Szutkowski, Professor at the University of Szczecin – a graduate in Slavic and Polish philology from the University of Szczecin, author of works in the fields of onomastics, phraseology, paremiology, and translation studies. His research interests focus primarily on paremiography in a contrastive perspective, innovations in contemporary Polish proverbs, diagnostics of the competences of translation students, and collocations and their extraction using corpus data. He has served for many years as Head of the School of Translation and Specialised Foreign Languages at the University of Szczecin.

Dr hab. Władysław Chłopicki holds a professorship at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków and at the State Academy of Applied Sciences in Krosno. He is a pioneer of humour research in Poland and author of the 1995 book O humorze poważnie. His reflections on humour are grounded in cognitive linguistics, linguistic pragmatics, and discourse analysis. He also promotes interdisciplinary humour studies, particularly in cooperation with cultural and social sciences researchers. In recent years, he has mainly focused on public humour, leading and participating in numerous European research projects on the subject (some of the results are published on the portal humorinpublic.eu).

Dr Anna Kuźnik graduated in Romance Philology from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1995. From 2003 to 2010 she was affiliated with the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where in 2010 she obtained a European PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies. From 2005 to 2021, she was a member of the PACTE research group at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Since 2011, she has worked at the Institute of Romance Philology, University of Wrocław. She is a member of the thematic network Translation, Research, Empiricism, Cognition (TREC), the Consortium for Translation Education Research (CTER), and the Centre for Cognitive Research on Language and Communication at the Faculty of Modern Languages, University of Wrocław. She was the project leader of the Erasmus+ project Towards a European Framework of Reference for Translation (EFFORT) (09.2020–08.2023) at the same Faculty. She also serves as the External Stakeholder Liaison Coordinator at the Institute of Romance Philology, University of Wrocław.
