Open Days 2025

As every year, prior to the recruitment for the next academic year, individual faculties and institutes of the University of Wrocław organise Open Days.

The Open Days are a series of events during which candidates for studies at the University of Wrocław will have the opportunity to get to know the fields of study, scientific associations, see the buildings of the faculty or institute, listen to interesting popular science lectures, meet their future lecturers, talk to students of specific fields of study and find out everything about the university recruitment procedure.

Below you will find information about the Open Days – the list is updated on an ongoing basis as we receive information from individual units.

If any of you are an organiser of the Open Days and would like to add or supplement the information, please send it to: malgorzata.jurkiewicz@uwr.edu.pl.

We will show how mathematics allows you to process images and how a programmer can use LLMs in their daily work. We will also be presenting the new course Artificial Intelligence in Data Analysis.’

Joint commencement, Institute of Computer Science, Room 25

11:00 Jan Marcinkowski On finding the shortest paths in an industrial-scale road network

‘Find the shortest path from vertex u to vertex v in a graph’ – one of the most natural tasks in computer science. Dijkstra’s classic 1956 algorithm is essentially the ultimate practical solution to this problem.

So do Google Maps (and other map services) fire up Dijkstra’s algorithm every time we want to go from one place to another? It turns out not: but to come up with something cleverer, you need to understand the particular nature of the problem posed to them. So let’s talk about what is it about the road network? And how does the map service task differ from the IT Olympiad task? We will outline some practical solutions to the problem (different companies do this differently) and their theoretical underpinnings. There will also be practical navigation tips.

FACULTY OF LAW, ADMINISTRATION AND ECONOMICS

TIME and PLACE: 13 April at 11:00 a.m. ul. Uniwersytecka 7/10

Programme:

The Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics will host an Open Day and a Faculty Game. This is an excellent opportunity for prospective students to find out more about the Faculty’s teaching offer and recruitment rules. This year’s programme also includes a meeting with the faculty authorities and students who will answer all questions about studying at the Faculty.

Once again, visitors to the Open Days will have the opportunity to compete in the Faculty Game. Participants will get acquainted with the details of the subject matter during a simulated court hearing that opens the event. Players in groups will face a series of tasks and puzzles while exploring knowledge of law, administration and economics as well as practical aspects of the studies on offer. Attractive prizes will raise the excitement level and increase the competition.

The theme of this year’s Faculty Game ‘Algorytm (nie)Sprawiedliwości’ will be set in the near future. In the realities of the modern world, where AI technology permeates every aspect of life, a mysterious system created to support decisions in the spheres of law, administration and economics begins to act unpredictably. Instead of making life easier, AI begins to make controversial decisions that cause chaos – from misinterpretations of the law, to unclear administrative decisions, to disruptions in the economic system. Participants of the game, matched in groups, will traverse the buildings of the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics in search of information to solve tasks, learn about the tools and methods used during their studies, and interact with AI and VR models.
