
Open Meeting of the Board of the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates
The First Open Meeting of the Board of the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates in Wrocław gathered over one hundred participants from the whole country. The event was organized by the Doctoral Student Council of the University of Wrocław and the Doctoral Student Council of Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences in cooperation with the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates (KRD), the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, Wrocław University of Health and Sport Sciences, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Doctoral School of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy of Polish Academy of Sciences, and Wrocławsko-Opolskie Porozumienie Doktorantów.
The event was organized under the honorary patronage of Rector of University of Wrocław prof. dr hab. Robert Olkiewicz, Rector of Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences prof. dr hab. dr h.c. Krzysztof Kubiak, Rector of Wrocław University of Health and Sport Sciences dr hab. Taduesz Stefaniak, Rector of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław prof. dr hab. Krystian Kiełb, Wrocławskie Centrum Akademickie, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, and Dozamel Ltd. – the entity managing Wrocławski Park Przemysłowy.
The main goal of this meeting was to present reports about the activity of the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates, provide an opportunity for dialogue between the board of KRD and the representatives of various Polish doctoral councils, as well as to hold workshops concerning issues important to doctoral students.
The first day of the event began with an official inauguration for the invited guests. Afterwards, a discussion panel devoted to the funding of Polish sciences commenced. The participants of the panel included: Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Wrocław prof. dr hab. Artur Błażejewski, Vice-Rector for Science at Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences prof. dr hab. inż. Andrzej Zachwieja, board chairman of Dozamel Wojciech Bogusz, and the representative of the National Centre for Research and Development dr Piotr W. Zawadzki. The representatives of the Doctoral Student Council of the University of Wrocław also took part in the opening ceremony, and the guests were greeted by mgr inż. Anita Dudek, the chairwoman of the Doctoral Student Council of Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences.
The second day, which took place at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economy at the University of Wrocław, began with training panels concerning successful application to NCBR programs and image-building for researchers. Announcements of the Chair of the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates were initiated by dr Łukasz Prus, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at the University of Wrocław. Afterwards, the participants were greeted by mgr Wojciech Milczarski, Chairman of the Doctoral Student Council of the University of Wrocław. Following the more formal segment, the networking session began.
The third day was devoted to tourist attractions in Wrocław.
Since the session was open, doctoral students from various universities had direct contact with representatives of the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates. The workshops and training panels addressed current issues that are important to doctoral students. The presence of representatives from various doctoral student councils promoted the exchange of experiences and the integration of doctoral students.
NCBR workshops and image-building allowed participants to expand their competencies, while the discussion panel regarding the funding of Polish sciences facilitated a substantive exchange of opinions on critical issues for academia. In summary, the First Open Meeting of the Board of the Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates in Wrocław served as a significant event for doctoral students in Poland, as it provided opportunities for dialogue, the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and skills beneficial for doctoral councils and academia.
