Opening at the Museum of the University of Wrocław
On 2 July, the Museum of the University of Wrocław hosted the opening of the exhibition ‘Rzeczy mówią. Uniwersyteckie historie opowiedziane przedmiotami’. The exhibition will be open in the Hall under the Pillar from 4 July 2024.
The University of Wrocław is the oldest institution of higher education in Wrocław. In its more than 320-year history, it has amassed a rich material heritage, which people working and studying at the University interact with on a daily basis. This ranges from art and technical relics, teaching and learning aids to ordinary objects of everyday use. Stored in staff offices, lecture theatres and storerooms, they bear witness to generations of care for the memory of the academic community and its academic achievements. The stories accompanying these items transport you back to a bygone time showing the close relationship between academics and the objects around them.
From these stories, the exhibition was born. Its aim is to arouse awareness of the value of things and the need to preserve them for future generations. Objects as historical testimonies can play a bonding role for the entire academic community.
