Our researcher at the Academy of Young Scientists and Artists

During the Celebration of Science in Wrocław on 15 November 2024, appointment letters were presented to new members of the Academy of Young Scientists and Artists. The 7-member group included our researcher dr Justyna Zeler from the Faculty of Chemistry.

The Academy of Young Scientists and Artists has been operating in Wrocław since 2010. Its goal is to support outstanding young scientists and artists. This is a consultative and advisory team of the Mayor of Wrocław.

The results of the scientists’ cooperation can be seen at numerous seminars, conferences or workshops conducted by themselves or by invited prominent scientists and popularisers of science and innovation. Members of the Academy of Young Scientists and Artists also form interdisciplinary research teams and also conduct scientific projects among themselves.

The direction of the Academy’s activities depends primarily on its members – they are the ones who give it its final shape and determine its thematic area of interest. The length of the term of office of members is 5 years, with the possibility of extension.

The invitation to the Academy is addressed to people up to 35 years of age, coming from the academic circles of research institutes, universities from Wrocław and Lower Silesia representing various fields and disciplines of science and art.

Dr Justyna Zeler is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Wrocław. Her research work deals with modern and intelligent luminescent materials that, after absorbing specific energies, exhibit “luminescence” – generate light of a defined colour. This property is called luminescence.

– The main objective of my research is the design, synthesis and in-depth spectroscopic characterization of luminescent materials that can be useful for optical imaging of tumor tissues and simultaneous reading of their temperature through the strongly temperature-dependent luminescent effects of nanomaterials,” explains our researcher.

The main idea of the Academy of Young Scientists and Artists is the unity of knowledge, especially important in relation to disciplines that are far apart. – Particularly important to me is that it is a place for interdisciplinary and free intellectual exchange – Justyna Zeler stresses. – She would like to conduct her activities at the Academy on several levels: – There will be thematic seminars and the establishment of research cooperation in various fields of science and art, the organization of periodic seminars, including international ones, where the latest developments in various disciplines will be presented in a popular-scientific manner, our researcher enumerates. – I would also like to focus on educational and research projects to support chemistry education in primary and secondary schools.

WE wish a good luck!
