Our researcher with Miniatura 7

Dr Olga Taranek-Wolańska works at the Department of Editing at the Institute of Polish Studies of the University of Wrocław.

She received funding of PLN 27,000 from the National Science Centre for a project entitled: „Korespondencja rodzinna Fredrów z lat 1865‒1882. Kwerenda źródłowa” (“Fredro family correspondence from 1865-1882. Source queries”).

– I am particularly interested in contemporary reinterpretation contexts of Romantic literature. This time, the research concerns the Fredro family correspondence of 1865-1882, which is an inalienable but not yet fully explored context for the late and particularly extra-romantic works of Alexander Fredro, says the researcher. – I want to analyse and describe it, using the research methods of maladic discourse, somatic criticism and affective turn. In addition, Fredro’s letters are a treasure trove of knowledge concerning many aspects of the history and everyday life of Galicia at the time.

As part of her research, she intends to travel to Warsaw, where a large part of the Fredro family archive containing personal papers, including correspondence, is stored in the National Library. He has a few ideas on how to use the results of the planned search in the future, but for now he is keeping it a secret.

– I owe my interest in the works of Aleksander Fredro to my participation in the NPRH project „Twórczość Aleksandra Fredry w opiniach jego współczesnych” (“The works of Aleksander Fredro in the opinions of his contemporaries”), which was carried out at Wrocław University under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Marian Ursel” – says dr Olga Taranek-Wolańska. – It was then that I became convinced of the value of e-documents for philological research.
