
Piotr Ostropolski-Nalewaja with an award
In 2025, two equal awards in the category of theoretical aspects of computer science were given to dr Piotr Ostropolski-Nalewaja from the University of Wrocław and Marek Sokołowski from the University of Warsaw, and in the category of applied computer science to Marcin Sendera from the Jagiellonian University.
The Witold Lipski Prize was established to commemorate the achievements of this outstanding scientist and to promote young Polish computer scientists. The award is given to outstanding young scientists in two categories – theoretical aspects of computer science and applied computer science. The prize in each category is PLN 50,000.
Piotr Ostropolski-Nalewaja is interested in database theory and publishes in prestigious venues (including PODS/IJCAI/LICS/ICDT). In 2024, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled ‘Chasing the chase: The chase as a tool of database theory,’ written under the supervision of prof. Jerzy Marcinkowski, director of the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Wrocław.
