Poland’s experience for Belarus – a new academic Publication by the UWr Institute of International and Security Studies
The Institute of International Studies and Security encourages readers to explore the newly published volume entitled “Białoruś przed wyzwaniem transformacji demokratycznej w dziedzinie edukacji i nauki. Doświadczenia Polski dla Białorusi.” The publication was inspired by the participation of Polish and Belarusian scholars in the 19th Polish–Belarusian Academic and Practical Round Table entitled “Edukacja i nauka Białorusi przed wyzwaniem transformacji demokratycznej. Doświadczenia Polski,” which took place on 11 December 2024. The organisation of the Round Table was made possible by the project “Free Belarusian University,” funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland, with additional support from the Institute of International Studies and Security and the Municipality of Wrocław.
In Wschodnioznawstwo, 2025, Vol. 19, nine scholarly articles were published as a separate thematic section entitled “Białoruś przed wyzwaniem transformacji demokratycznej w dziedzinie edukacji i nauki. Doświadczenia Polski dla Białorusi.”
The publications address key issues related to the transformation of the education and science system in Belarus and analyse the potential transfer of Poland’s transformation experience in the context of democratisation and the development of civil society.
The issue was published on 15 December 2025. The Editor-in-Chief of the annual journal is Tomasz Szyszlak, and the thematic section editors are dr Helena Giebień and dr Tatiana Iwanow. The articles are available in open access (DOI: 10.4467/20827695WSC.25.001.22814), which facilitates the international dissemination of the research findings.
The support project “Free Belarusian University” is implemented at the University of Wrocław and funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland (contract no. MNiSW/2024/DWM/13). The aim of the project is to prepare reform-oriented personnel for the needs of a future democratic Belarusian state. The educational programme draws on the transformation experience of Central and Eastern European countries and предусматривает the establishment of a university offering European-standard online education for Belarusians, both those residing in the country and those living in exile.
