Polish-Belarusian Roundtable at the UWr

On 11 December 2024, at 9:00 a.m., the 19th Polish-Belarusian Scientific and Practical Roundtable will be held at the Institute of International and Security Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wrocław entitled “Edukacja i nauka Białorusi przed wyzwaniem transformacji demokratycznej. Doświadczenia Polski” (eng. “Education and Science of Belarus before the Challenge of Democratic Transformation. Experience of Poland”). The event is co-organised by the City Hall of Wrocław and Wolny Uniwersytet Białorus Foundation.

The event takes place against the backdrop of the crisis caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine and the ongoing degradation of the authoritarian regime in Belarus. In response to these challenges, Polish and Belarusian researchers decided to resume the interrupted tradition of bilateral scientific meetings. Roundtable discussions will address both the current state of the higher education and science system in Belarus and the main directions of their democratic transformation after the fall of the dictatorship.

A special value of this event is the opportunity to learn about Poland’s experience with higher education reforms in the post-authoritarian period. The event also aims to integrate the Polish and Belarusian academic communities by exchanging information about areas of research and educational activities in various scientific centers in the country and abroad.

The University of Wrocław will be represented, among others, by WNS Vice-Dean for international cooperation prof. Piotr Sula, ISMiB Director prof. Krzysztof Kociubiński, prof. Marek Wróblewski, dr hab. Piotr Grabowiec, dr Helena Giebień and dr Tatiana Iwanow.
